This study looked at whether self-regulation, depressive symptoms, and aggression/antisociality were mediators in the relation between a polygenic score indexing serotonin (5-HT) functioning and alcohol use in adolescence. 5-HT, the group of receptors for serotonin, may be the missing link that leads to alcoholism early in life. Low 5-HT function scores were also able to accurately predict depression and poor self-regulation in those they studied. Although its preliminary research, this is an important study in the nascent field of psychogenomics. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
